Manzanillo Area Beaches
Manzanillo, Mexico is known for its gorgeous beaches. There are two such beaches—Las Hadas Resort beach and Audiencia beach, within walking distance of the villa. You may also choose to take advantage of the villa’s free shuttle services to these two beaches available from 8am – 10pm Monday-Saturday and from 10am -2pm on Sunday (please plan shuttle service 24 hours in advance). Audiencia beach is located near the hotel Tesoro and is where the movie “10” was filmed, featuring Bo Derek and Dudley Moore. This beautiful beach is a quick car ride or a less than 10-minute walk from the villa. Chairs and beach umbrellas are available for rent at most Manzanillo beaches. Audiencia beach is a great area for snorkeling. Paddleboats, jet skis, kayaks, boogie boards and banana boat rides are available from beach vendors. Bring a cooler from the villa and spend the day at the beach in Manzanillo.

The beach at the Las Hadas Resort is accessible to villa guests, but only after paying an entrance fee at the main gate of Las Hadas. This is a very nice beach with beautiful white beach tents, fresh towels, and chairs available for rent. See our FAQ about Las Hadas access for more details. There are numerous gorgeous Mexican Riviera beaches in the Manzanillo/Santiago area within a short 10-15 minute drive.

Manzanillo Area Watersports
Popular surfing areas in Manzanillo, Mexico include Olas Altas, Miramar and Boca de Pascuales. Manzanillo surfers tell us that they like La Ticia, located approximately one and one half hours south of Manzanillo.

Audiencia beach in Manzanillo has beach vendors who offer boogie board, jet ski, kayak and paddleboat rentals as well as banana boat rides.

There is an excellent scuba shop within minutes of the villa called Underworld Scuba. They have scuba and snorkeling equipment for sale or rent. Underworld Scuba offers lessons and exploration tours in the Manzanillo area for all ages and will pick you up and drop you off at the villa.

Manzanillo Area Boating and Deep Sea Fishing
Known as the "sailfish capital of the world", Manzanillo is a great spot for deep-sea fishing. Many of our guests enjoy the day out on the Pacific Ocean, catching fish and enjoying the views of the Mexican Riviera coastline. Some catch and release, others have the fish cleaned and bring them to the villa where the cook staff prepares them for dinner. Our house manager can set up your Mexican deep-sea fishing adventure through one of the charter fishing companies in the Manzanillo area.

Manzanillo Area Area Golf
There are several challenging golf courses in the Manzanillo vicinity –
La Mantarraya at Las Hadas Resort, Isla Navidad and Tamarindo. The golf course at the Las Hadas Resort, La Mantarraya, is available for our guests. Pete and Roy Dye designed this course in the late 1970’s. La Mantarraya has hosted many celebrity golf tournaments over the years. The course is a five-minute car ride from the villa. Rates for La Mantarraya, as of spring 2007, are as follows:

Located about one hour from Manzanillo is the Isla Navidad course. Isla Navidad boasts 27 holes set in a gorgeous lush tropical setting. Many of our guests have golfed here and they tell us this course rivals some of the world’s best! The course, designed by Robert Von Hagge, is considered challenging, yet forgiving, making it a favorite of our golfing guests. Rates for Isla Navidad, as of spring 2007, are as follows:

One and a half hours from the villa you will find the Tamarindo golf course. Our golf enthusiasts have said this course is one of the finest in the world. Well worth the trip, Tamarindo features tropical vegetation and a challenging round. Current rates not available.

Manzanillo Area Tennis
There are tennis courts available for use at a reasonable hourly rate at the Hotel Tesoro and the tennis facility of the Las Hadas resort both just a few minutes from the villa.


Manzanillo Area Shopping
Manzanillo has a modern shopping mall located about 5 minutes by car from the villa. This mall has many nice shops featuring clothing, swimwear, Mexican souvenirs, shoes, Mexican silver, jewelry, and snacks. The mall's main anchor store is Comercial Mexicana, a store similar to Wal-Mart. This is a great place to pick up any personal grooming items you may need on your vacation or beach toys for the kids. Near the mall another discount department store has opened named Soriana.

The towns of Manzanillo and Santiago (located right next to Manzanillo) have several nice boutiques. Shoppers will find a great selection of beautiful embroidered clothing, hats, jewelry and shoes at reasonable prices.

On the beachfront in Santiago there is a wonderful little "flea market" where shoppers can browse through a seemingly endless array of booths brimming with Mexican silver jewelry, pewter serving pieces, clothing and souvenirs. This is a fun place to bring the kids. There is a main market, or mercado, in downtown Manzanillo. Shoppers who go to the mercado get a taste of everyday life in Mexico and see many different foods being sold by the vendors.

Manzanillo Area Dining
Manzanillo has many different restaurants to choose from. Anything from casual pizza spots to elegant and romantic fine dining can be found near the villa. There is also pizza delivery available.
